Stevie Ray Visited - The Music of Stevie Ray Vaughan

Experience a blues explosion as guitar-shredding master Roby Duron leads this spectacular tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan, one of the most influential blues guitarists in history. Hear Pride and Joy, Crossfire, House is a Rockin’, Texas Flood and many more.

When Stevie Ray Visited bandleader Roby Duron was 12, his dad, a rockin’ Doors-influenced pianist, taught him to play a few chords, igniting Duron’s love for playing the blues, especially the music of Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Today, Duron has mastered Vaughan’s style, and the band’s keyboardist Noel Deis actually played with Vaughan himself, adding even more authenticity to the Stevie Ray Visited live shows. Their first gig was held at the Palmdale Playhouse in 2019 to a sold-out audience, and they’ve been selling out shows ever since, including the Chrome Showroom in Las Vegas two years in a row.

This concert/theater work brings the music and the story of the great Ray Charles to vivid life! Portraying Ray, master pianist/vocalist, Kenny Brawner leads his 11 piece orchestra and three sultry vocalists (a la the Raelettees), performing this American legend’s most popular hits: “What’d I Say?”, “I Got A Woman”, “Mess Around”, “Georgia On My Mind”, a blazing hot duet on “Baby It’s Cold Outside”, and many more! The music is interwoven with monologues depicting how gospel, blues, jazz, and country-influenced Ray’s style, while also reflecting on American social history, his epic battle with drugs, and his triumphant return home to Georgia.

Ray On My Mind assembles an orchestra of profoundly accomplished musicians whose performances are ingrained in American popular culture. Members of the orchestra have been heard prolifically on Broadway, Off-Broadway, film, and television. They have performed all over the world and recorded with a diverse range of influential musical giants, including the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, the Count Basie Orchestra, Luther Vandross, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Darius Rucker, Jennifer Hudson, Sonny Rollins, Big Daddy Kane, Bo Diddley, the Sun Ra Arkestra, the Mighty Sparrow, Roy Ayers, Sam & Dave, Ashford and Simpson, Gregory Porter, Boy George, Wilson Pickett, Percy Sledge, David Murray, Eric Benet, Larry Coryell, John Popper, Lester Bowie, Shaggy, Ron Carter and Rihanna.

60 Years of "Green Onions" and STAX Hits

“Green Onions” is an instrumental composition recorded in 1962 by Booker T. & the M.G.’s. Described as “one of the most popular instrumental rock and soul songs ever” and as one of “the most popular R&B instrumentals of its era”, the tune is a twelve-bar blues with a rippling Hammond M3 organ line by Booker T. that he wrote when he was 17, although the actual recording was largely improvised in the studio.

The track was originally issued in May 1962 on the Volt label (a subsidiary of Stax Records) as the B-side of “Behave Yourself” on Volt 102; it was quickly reissued in August 1962 as the A-side of Stax 127, and it also appeared on the album Green Onions that same year. The organ sound of the song became a feature of the “Memphis soul” sound.

Booker T. Jones is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, four-time GRAMMY winner and arguably the most famous Hammond B3 player in history. As leader of the legendary Booker T. and the MGs, this pillar of soul music collaborated with Otis Redding, Albert King, and more during his tenure at Stax Records. Since then, Booker has lent his trademark keyboard chops to and produced classic albums such as Willie Nelson’s multi-platinum hit Stardust and Bill Withers’ Just As I Am featuring the hit song “Ain’t No Sunshine”.

With his Hammond B-3 organ, Booker T. Jones, along with the MG’s, would come to define The Memphis Sound. As leader of the famed Stax Records house band, and one of modern music’s most acclaimed figures, his first recording, “Green Onions,” was an international sensation, selling more than one million copies and claiming a place among Rolling Stone’s top five hundred songs of all time. As a multi-instrumental musical prodigy, his legacy is more than one song or music genre, and has grown with “Time Is Tight,” “Hip Hug-Her,” and the often sampled “Melting Pot” and collaborations with the likes of Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and Sam and Dave—and later Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Carlos Santana, Willie Nelson and Drive-By-Truckers.

“Booker T. Jones is one of the legends of soul music.” – The New Yorker

“Jones’ name is synonymous with the Hammond B3 organ. At 17, he recorded the instrument’s anthem, “Green Onions.” – NPR
